With working from home full-time during lockdown, my mum made the decision to give her office a makeover. She was feeling slightly uninspired and struggling to find a direction, so called on me for a brainstorm and some inspo!
Mum wanted to keep the space light and fresh but give it a more welcoming, fun feel. The aim was to maintain a practical space for work, with the addition of a “chill out” area for relaxing, coffee drinking and tv watching!

As well as keeping the existing desk and storage units, my mum wanted to incorporate her green sofa bed. This gave a starting point for the colour scheme, and I began by building around this with complimentary accent colours.

With the main aim to keep the space clean and fresh, we kept the walls white and introduced a subtle colour palette, including hints of pinks and teals, within the accessories and soft furnishings. I then added in natural textures and some warmth with the oak & cane furniture pieces, alongside a mixture of real and artificial plants.
Adding the vintage-inspired woven rug instantly separated the space, creating a designated “work area” and “chill area”. With a few more homely touches, including velvet cushions, a textured throw, and additional lighting, the back half of the room already started to feel much more welcoming and relaxing, whilst still maintaining a fresh feel.

At the front half of the room, we kept the desk and storage units in the same position. The office furniture is practical but basic, so we jazzed the space up with some statement shelves and accessories to tie in with the colour scheme. I sourced the oak & cane shelves from the La Redoute Buisseau collection to match the coffee table and sideboard, which brings both sections of the room together perfectly.
As all the colourful statement pieces are soft furnishings and small accessories, there is always the option to tweak this colour scheme through the years… without breaking the bank!
