I posted a little preview of my DIY play gym over on Instagram, and a few people have asked for a tutorial… so here we go!
This is a super easy hack, and all in all cost less than £50…

You will need:
- Play gym frame
- Crochet fruit
- Rug
- Wool
- Wool needle

If you’re feeling very creative, you could create your own wooden gym frame. However, I came across this Childhome Tipi Frame for a bargain of £20, so this seemed a no-brainer!

Once I’d built the frame, it was time to attach the crochet fruit. I’d originally looked on Etsy for crochet hanging toys specifically designed for play gyms, but they ended up working out very pricey.
Instead, I found this pack of three crochet fruit soft toys for under £15 which I could turn into hanging toys…

I bought some matching green wool and a knitters needle to create hangings for the fruit. Once threaded, I simply tied each of them onto the frame.

I’d been searching for a play mat that didn’t cost the earth for a while and had no luck. In the end, I decided to go for this faux fur rug which does the trick and only cost £12!

And there we have it… a super easy and affordable cute play gym!
