We recently got all our wedding photos back from our amazing photographer Matt Moore, so I thought I’d share a few posts about our special day, starting with… our celebrant-led ceremony!
We chose to have our wedding in the field at the back of my parent’s home. We hired three giant tipi’s for our reception, and as the weather was so lovely we were luckily able to hold our ceremony outside!
When we were looking into options for our ceremony, we knew we wanted something personal to us, so the celebrant option seemed the perfect route. We came across Bex’s promo video on Rock My Wedding, and knew straight away that she was totally our vibe! After an initial video chat on Zoom, we booked Bex for our special day.
From filling in individual and joint questionnaires and really getting to know us, Bex crafted us the most beautiful, personalised ceremony that we could have possibly wished for…
My bridesmaids and I arrived in true style in a gorgeous dove blue VW camper van.
For our ceremony music, we had Simon Gynn, an incredible acoustic guitar musician all the way from Dublin! My bridesmaids walked down the aisle in pairs to ‘Over the Rainbow’, and I followed with my dad to ‘Here Comes the Sun’.
Bex kicked off our ceremony with our ‘love story’ – talking about how and when we met and everything we’ve done up until now. This was followed by a beautiful reading from my mum, which was a personalised limerick about Jack and I!
Next up, rather than a traditional hymn, we had a group sing-a-long to ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’. I designed double-sided ‘Order of Service’ paddle boards, which included the song lyrics on the reverse.
The group sing-a-long was followed by a group vow and shot (you can’t get more untraditional than that) served on paddle boards handed out by our groomsmen. Tequila rose was the shot of choice, as well as an orange juice option for children to join in too!
We played a game of ‘odds on’ to decide who went first to read our personal vows, followed by the exchanging of rings.
Another special addition to our ceremony was a hand-tying ritual, which involved our grandparents. Three ribbons were placed across our hands, and when we pulled them away, it literally tied the knot! Bex kindly chose ribbons in our colour scheme, and kept this safe for us as a momentum of our ceremony.
We made it all offish signing our certificate, and then walked back down the aisle to ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ followed by the bridal party.
The most perfect ceremony!
If you’re getting married, and really want to inject some of your personality into your ceremony, then I would definitely recommend considering a celebrant-led wedding (and Bex!) Here are a few reasons why…
1. You can choose your celebrant
Unlike a registrar, you can choose who will officiate your ceremony with a celebrant. We knew straight away that Bex was perfect for our day, and there are so many celebrants out there to suit everyones style!
2. You can have your ceremony anywhere
You can literally hold your celebrant-led ceremony anywhere! Whether that’s the beach, the forest, outdoors, indoors – wherever is most special to you as a couple.
3. Your celebrant won’t be a stranger
Bex took the time to really get to know us. We filled out fun questionnaires so Bex could really understand us as a couple. We met up for lunch a couple of weeks before, and had a group chat where we could discuss everything on the run-up to the wedding.
4. You can have a totally unique ceremony
Your wedding should represent you as a couple and set the tone for your whole day. Only a celebrant ceremony can include a group sing-a-long to your favourite song, a tequila shot and a hand-tying ritual! The world literally is your oyster, any wild and wonderful ideas you have can come alive!
